Over time the freehub rotates less freely. It’s usually ok and just needs to be cleaned out and re-lubed. There is a YouTube video below.

- Remove freehub from hub.
- Carefully pry rubber ring from back side of freehub.
- Soak freehub in a grease remover.
- Spin and shake until itโs clean inside.
- Let it dry out completely.
- Dribble in some good lubricant and spin a few times.
- Clean and insert the rubber ring.
- Assemble freehub to hub.
Which lube ? It needs an oil that is a bit thick and will stick to the bearings and ratchet mechanism for a long time. Spray grease or a specific freehub lube is a good choice. I used new 40W engine oil.
