Fix a sticky freehub

Over time the freehub rotates less freely. It’s usually ok and just needs to be cleaned out and re-lubed. There is a YouTube video below.

  1. Remove freehub from hub.
  2. Carefully pry rubber ring from back side of freehub.
  3. Soak freehub in a grease remover.
  4. Spin and shake until itโ€™s clean inside.
  5. Let it dry out completely.
  6. Dribble in some good lubricant and spin a few times.
  7. Clean and insert the rubber ring.
  8. Assemble freehub to hub.

Which lube ? It needs an oil that is a bit thick and will stick to the bearings and ratchet mechanism for a long time. Spray grease or a specific freehub lube is a good choice. I used new 40W engine oil.
